In Schwaz, where more than 10,000 miners searched for the treasured ores more than 500 years ago, you can in search of the trails of Middle Ages silver and copper mining in the Schwazer silver mine. Up to 85% of the silver traded throughout the world was mined here in 1500. The wealth of the Schwazer mines meant that the first Guldiner were minted here in 1486 in the Hall Mint - the coin was the European currency and therefore the Euro's predecessor. It was produced here over 300 years ago.
